FROM HOLLYWOOD TO THE BAY: JAMAICAN COMEDY FINDS ITS WAY TO CENTER STAGE!

October 23, 2006:
The Caribbean American Repertory Theatre presents Trevor Rhones SMILE ORANGE, directed by Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter is playing at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center on November 18, 2006.

After a hugely successful showing in Los Angeles, Rhones impudently amusing satire, is brought to the San Francisco Bay Area by award winning director Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter. SMILE ORANGE is a rollicking slapstick satire that ranks with the funniest and most heartwarming comedies of the decade.

SMILE ORANGE pokes fun at the tourist trade in Jamaica, and makes fun of both the visitors and native Jamaicans. The story focuses on Ringo, the slick waiter, and super stud, who has used his wit and charm to change his lowly position into a profitable one. As Ringo trains a busboy in the art of picking up single, women tourists he tells him A Blackman who cant play a part will starve to death. SMILE ORANGE will make you howl with laughter, but in much of the laughter there is pain.

The plays director Jeffrey Anderson Gunter also stars as Ringo. His film and television credits include, the ABC series Hudson Street with Tony Danza, Marked for Death with Steven Seagal, Dont be a Menace with Shawn and Marlon Wayans, and many others.

The play will feature other accomplished stars: Michael Ralph (brother of Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph), whose film and television credits include, the Bernie Mac Show, Marked for Death, National Lampoon's Last Resort, Malcolm X and many others. Fumi, a veteran of the arts, whose acting credits include Roots: The Second Generation, and The Rope and the Cross. Monish Bakshi, whose film and televison credits include Strong Medicine, and Woman on Fire, and last but certainly not least Lij Kerai, whose credits include Hollywood Homicide, Bruce Almighty and My Nappy Roots.

A delightfully playful, hilarious comedy, that will entertain the whole family, SMILE ORANGE, is the Caribbean American Repertory Theatre, Wests second offering for 2006.
